Hi all!

It’s been a while since I’ve written a post on the site, and I had a couple of meetings reschedule today so I wanted to take the time to capture some of my current thoughts and let you under the hood so to speak.

Now that it’s public, I can put it out there that I was laid off when my previous company, RJMetrics, was acquired by Magento. So for the last month of my life, I’ve been meeting people full-time with the security of a severance package. I no longer have that security, but I do still have the desire to get to know the people around me.

My plan is to continue meeting people full-time for the next 2-3 months to see what I can make of my project. Ideally, I’ll build the project to the point where it’s worth sponsoring in some way, but I’ll most likely have to jump back into a job before I get to that point. I’m not sure how this will play out, but that’s what makes it exciting for me!

At this point, I feel like the project is going really well. I definitely have days where I wake up and think, “What are you doing with your life??” but I’m optimistic about the future. I currently have 41 meetings scheduled that have yet to occur so it’s growing! Often times, when I tell people about it now, they say something along the lines of “Oh yeah, I’ve heard about your project,” or “You met with my friend…” so it’s exciting to see it gaining some familiarity in the city.

I met up with Josh Hoffman (#121) for drinks last night and he asked me what my fears are going forward. I told him two things: 1) I fear any type of negativity that might arise once there are eventually enough eyes on the project. While I go into every meeting with an unbiased view, I don’t know if that will hold true for everyone who’s able to comment on posts. For now, though everyone is super positive and I hope it stays that way! 2) I fear having a huge demand of people to meet. This is of course a good problem to have, but I’m not looking forward to the day when I have to reschedule with someone and they get bumped to the end of the line. Luckily, I don’t have to worry about that right now, but it is something I think about and something I’m sure I’ll have to come up with a good solution for.

I’m sure there will be many positives and negatives that arise that I haven’t even thought of yet, but the uncertainty of everything is what keeps me interested. I love the fact that I never know how much my project is going to grow in any one particular week, day, or hour. Right now, my main goal is to figure out how I can continue to do this full-time because, to me, it’s the best way to go through life so stay posted and thanks for following along if you read this!
